The West Valley City Giving Tree Program kicked-off November 11 and runs through December 10. Help a West Valley City child in need this holiday season. Trees are located near the Customer Service Center. Select a child to shop for, check out the ornament from the Customer Service Center and receive a list of the child's needs and wants. Return unwrapped gifts to the Customer Service Center before December 10.
Get to Know West Valley City Police Departments Newest K9 Officer, Talos.
Beginning on Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the public is invited to get to know the West Valley City Police Department and their newest K9 officer, Talos, during a monthly 2 with Talos event at Valley Fair Mall.
2 with Talos, a partnership program between West Valley City and Valley Fair Mall, will provide residents an opportunity to meet and get to know the West Valley City Police Department. Visitors will get to meet and interact with Talos, a narcotics K9, and will receive his “paw”-tographed trading card (beginning in November). In addition, crime prevention information, home safety information, child ID kits and other helpful resources will be available at each event.??Talos is a member of the West Valley City Police Department K9 Unit and serves as a narcotics K9. Talos' trainer, Officer Steve Beardshall, works in the Community Services Section of the Police Department.
2 with Talos will be held on the second Saturday of every month, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Valley Fair Mall.

Local Olive Garden GM Honored Among Elite in North America
Paul Schmitt, General Manager of the Olive Garden at Valley Fair Mall, has been presented with Darden Restaurants’ top honor – the Joe R. Lee Diamond Club Award, named after the company’s retired chairman and CEO. This is the second time Schmitt has received this recognition. The Valley Fair Mall Olive Garden was ranked #1 in the company this summer out of 750 North American Olive Garden restaurants.

West Valley City • It could be a real comeback story.
City economic-development officials say the once-declining Valley Fair Mall is attracting more customers, some stores there are reporting double-digit increases in sales and new businesses keep coming in.
Brent Garlick, West Valley City Redevelopment Agency administrator, said late last month that there has been a big increase in auto traffic.
